Let’s All Appreciate Our Water Resources on August 1st!
It was created back in 1977 on a different day, and then moved to August 1st in 2014 as part of the Water Circulation Basic Law. This is the beginning of summer vacation or many people in Japan and the Japanese government promotes learning about and appreciating the nation’s water resources. They promote a week’s worth of events and learning activities across the country on the theme of “water”. However there doesn’t seem to be so much in English about this day. Definitely check out the fine government resources below and hit up Google Translate to find an event in your local area! How to enjoy Water Day
Please be careful of playing in rivers, the waters can be treacherous. However, there are places here and there where you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and even fly fishing! If you live near the ocean then a day at the beach may be a great way to relax in keeping with a water theme. In special places there are cormorant fishing boats that you can take that offer an evening of cormorant fishing by torchlight. Good fun and not something that most of us can enjoy in our home countries. Have fun and stay safe!
