Coming of Age Day in Japan 成人の日 せいじんのひ
Adulthood Starts This Day
Coming of Age Day in Japan is a holiday where people who became 20 years old the previous year get together and have a ceremony at the city office and then after parties with friends and families. The purpose of the holiday is to provide an event that makes young Japanese feel that they have formally become adults with all the liberties and responsibilities that it implies. Young men and women often dress in kimonos and young women especially have their hair ornately fashioned. Despite the decline in people who participate, the people who do seem to have a lot of fun. Coming of age day in Japan is on the second Monday of January every year.References
