Koromagae: The Time to Change Seasonal Uniforms For Summer In Japan 衣替え ころもがえ
Koromagae on June 1st is one of two times a year that people in Japan are scheduled to changed their uniforms for work or school from winter to summer attire.
Why Change Clothes at This Time?
June 1st is the Koromagae for Cool Biz uniforms in the summertime in Japan. Before Cool Biz was a thing, this was the general time for school students and office workers to change their uniforms because of the changing of the seasons. It’s not really a holiday per say and the exact time to change the uniforms changes from region to region as well. The time to change uniforms again is in October. Cool Biz is in effect from May to October.References
