Halloween in Japan ハロウィーン

Halloween Japanese Style or a Somewhat Modified Version of What Everybody Else is Doing

Growing bigger and more popular every year, Halloween in Japan is becoming something of a hybrid celebration all its own. It began when Disney Resorts in Tokyo started their Halloween themed events. From that people weren’t satisfied with just dressing up in Disney costumes and going to Tokyo Disney Sea or Tokyo Disney Land. People dressed as ghouls and went to public locations like Roppongi and Shibuya in Tokyo to be seen. From that these venues became huge street parties.

Halloween in Japan for Children

Today several theme parks have Halloween related events and themes, there are many Halloween parties at bars and clubs, and there are so many events for children in the day time as well. In Ueno and the Skytree have children’s costume parades. Some shopping streets allow Trick-or-Treating at the shops. Depending on the apartment complex, there may be Trick-or-Treating for the local kids.

Halloween in Japan for Adults, Too

For adults there are cosplay parades in Tokyo at Toyosu and other locations. Roppongi and Shibuya have open Halloween events and club parties. Beyond Tokyo there are Halloween celebrations at clubs from Sapporo to Fukuoka. Check out the references, especially in Japanese for events going on in Tokyo for Halloween!
