SUMMARY:Jusan Mairi Ceremony 十三詣り　or 十三参り じゅうさんまいり
DESCRIPTION:The Thirteenth Visit is a kind of coming of age ceremony celebrated at Buddhist temples by thirteen year olds In Kansai mostly.\n\nComing of Age Celebration for 13 Year Olds\n13 Year Olds Visit Religious Sites And Pray For Wisdom\nShichiGoSan is famous for little girls dressing up and taking pictures. But there is an event for both boys and girls on April 13th: The Jusan Mairi Ceremony. Though mostly celebrated in the Kansai area, boys and girls who are thirteen years old visit temples on this day and pray to Buddha for wisdom, and help passing their junior high school exams. Junior high school uniforms are as commonly worn on this day as kimonos. The event coincides with coming of age ceremonies in years gone by when thirteen year old children were considered nearly adult enough to receive their first set of adult clothes.\nWhere Can I Enjoy This?\nIn the Kansai region three famous temples for celebrating the Jusan Mairi Ceremony are Horin-ji Temple in Arashiyama, Kyoto, Taihei- ji Temple in Osaka Yuhigaoka, and Koninji Temple in Nara.\nIn the South Tohoku region, Fukushima Aizu’s Fukuman Kakuzozo Enzoji, Miyagi’s Oshu Yanagizu Kakuzozo Hohoin and Ibaraki Muramatsu’s Kakuzozo are famous.\nRecently, the Jusan Mairi Ceremony has spread to the Kanto area, and Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo is also famous for this.\nReferences\nIn English\nhttps://www.kokuzohourinji.com/index.en.html ( https://www.kokuzohourinji.com/index.en.html )\nhttps://tockify.com/whatsupinkyoto/detail/1205/1618239600000 ( https://tockify.com/whatsupinkyoto/detail/1205/1618239600000 )\nhttps://www.japanesewiki.com Jusan-mairi Thirteen Year Old Children Pray for Knowledge, Happiness and Health to Become Adults ( https://www.japanesewiki.com/culture/Jusan-mairi%20%28thirteen%20year%20old%20children%20pray%20for%20knowledge,%20happiness%20and%20health%20to%20become%20adults%29.html )\nIn Japanese\nhttps://saijigoyomi.com/13mairi/ ( https://saijigoyomi.com/13mairi/ )\nhttps://ja.kyoto.travel/tourism/single02.php?category_id=1&tourism_id=1398 ( https://ja.kyoto.travel/tourism/single02.php?category_id=1&tourism_id=1398 )\nPhoto thanks to LensOnJapan @ Flickr.com ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/lensonjapan/8678375246/ ).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nrakuten_design="slide";rakuten_affiliateId="194c1902.4e292998.194c1903.70e7fb9d";rakuten_items="ctsmatch";rakuten_genreId="0";rakuten_size="728x200";rakuten_target="_blank";rakuten_theme="gray";rakuten_border="on";rakuten_auto_mode="off";rakuten_genre_title="off";rakuten_recommend="on";rakuten_ts="1584940527191";\nBuy me a coffee, or two, or three ;-DThanks you for your support!Click Here for PayPal.me\nNew Year’s Fukagawa Seven Gods of Fortune Pilgrimage| Stamp Rally 深川七福神　| FukagawaShichiFukuJinJanuary 2, 2026Guide to Tokyo Sea Forest Park | Umi no Mori Park | 海の森公園September 6, 2025The Seven Wonders of Fukagawa | 深川七不思議 – Tokyo Urban LegendsAugust 14, 2025\n
