SUMMARY:Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri 春日若宮おん祭 かすがわかみやおんまつり
DESCRIPTION:\nThe long festival\nPeople originally created the Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri to pray away an epidemic. Later on people associated it with guaranteeing a good harvest. Because of the importance of the harvest in ancient Japan, the festival lasts for four days: from December 15th to 18th. If you can only be there for one day, aim for December 17th, as it’s the main day of the event.\nSoak up the musical performances at the Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri\nThe various traditional performances such as kagura, music dedicated to the gods, and bugaku, court music with dance, will surely leave you with a different appreciation for traditional Japanese musicianship. The Japanese government designated the music of the Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri as an important cultural property of Japan. The people of Nara passed down these dances from one generation to another, and many of these musical performances can only be seen at this festival.\nAncient Japanese fashions at the Kasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri\nIf you are interested in seeing the fashion and culture of bygone eras, the Procession of the Eras (Jidai no gyouretsu 時代の行列) is a must-see. In this procession, the customs, manners, and clothing of every major period from the Heian (794-1185) to the Edo (1603-1868) are authentically replicated. It’s a unique chance to see over 1,000 years of art and culture in one place.\nKasuga Wakamiya On-Matsuri Great Precession\nThis procession may also be called Otabisho (お旅所). This occurs on November 17th at 12 pm. The procession starts from Noboriojo, goes through Aburasaka near Kintetsu Nara station, and ends after passing through the tori gate (Ichi no Tori) near JR Nara station. At the end near “Yogou no Matsushita” they perform the “Matsushita Shiki”, a kind of ceremony. There are 12 different sections of the procession: musicians, priestesses, shrine maidens, dengaku (田楽), Bachou no Chigo (a ceremonial child riding on horseback), the racing horses and their riders, horse archers, horse as offering to the shrine, the parade of swords, Yamato samurai (servants of the Yamato), procession of the Daimyo (local area lords).\nFrom the Japan National Tourist Office ( https://www.japan.travel/en/spot/47/ )\nReferences\nIn English\nhttps://ohmatsuri.com/en/articles/nara-kasuga-wakamiya-on-matsuri-festival ( https://ohmatsuri.com/en/articles/nara-kasuga-wakamiya-on-matsuri-festival )\nhttps://www.visitnara.jp/venues/E02102/ ( https://www.visitnara.jp/venues/E02102/ )\nIn Japanese\nhttp://www.kasugataisha.or.jp/onmatsuri/ ( http://www.kasugataisha.or.jp/onmatsuri/ )\nhttps://narashikanko.or.jp/event/春日若宮おん祭／春日大社/ ( https://narashikanko.or.jp/event/春日若宮おん祭／春日大社/ )\nPhoto thanks to Tsunaki Koike @ OhMatsuri.com ( https://ohmatsuri.com/en/articles/nara-kasuga-wakamiya-on-matsuri-festival ).\n\nOther Articles You Might Be Interested In\n \nNew Year’s Fukagawa Seven Gods of Fortune Pilgrimage| Stamp Rally 深川七福神　| FukagawaShichiFukuJinJanuary 2, 2026Guide to Tokyo Sea Forest Park | Umi no Mori Park | 海の森公園September 6, 2025The Seven Wonders of Fukagawa | 深川七不思議 – Tokyo Urban LegendsAugust 14, 2025\nRelated Items on Amazon.co.jp in Japan\namzn_assoc_ad_type ="responsive_search_widget"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id ="whatilikeabou-22"; amzn_assoc_marketplace ="amazon"; amzn_assoc_region ="JP"; amzn_assoc_placement =""; amzn_assoc_search_type = "search_widget";amzn_assoc_width ="auto"; amzn_assoc_height ="auto"; amzn_assoc_default_search_category =""; amzn_assoc_default_search_key ="matsuri";amzn_assoc_theme ="light"; amzn_assoc_bg_color ="FFFFFF"; \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd Rakuten in Japan for Deep Cuts of Japonica\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n神社検定公式テキスト6「日本の祭り」価格：2200円（税込、送料無料) (2020/11/4時点)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n日本の祭り価格：3080円（税込、送料別) (2020/11/4時点)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nrakuten_design="slide";rakuten_affiliateId="194c1902.4e292998.194c1903.70e7fb9d";rakuten_items="ranking";rakuten_genreId="0";rakuten_size="728x200";rakuten_target="_blank";rakuten_theme="gray";rakuten_border="on";rakuten_auto_mode="on";rakuten_genre_title="off";rakuten_recommend="on";rakuten_ts="1582255594289";\n\nBuy me a coffee, or two, or three ;-DThanks you for your support!Click Here for PayPal.me\n
